Choosing Brazil.
The South American outlier. Brazil's all-inclusive market clusters almost entirely on the northeast coast — Bahia, Pernambuco, and Alagoas — and is driven by a combination of domestic tourism and Iberostar's heavy regional presence. Price floors are lower than the Caribbean for comparable quality, the beaches are extraordinary, and the food is the best of any AI destination by a fair margin. The price for that is logistical: getting there from the US is a multi-leg flight, usually routed through São Paulo or Recife, and the on-resort English level is the lowest of any major AI country.
The geographic logic is straightforward. Maceió and the Alagoas coast (south of Recife) host the Japaratinga Lounge Resort, Salinas-branded properties, and several Iberostars; Porto de Galinhas in Pernambuco just south of Recife is the most-visited Brazil beach zone; Bahia further south (Salvador, Praia do Forte) is the cultural anchor and where the Afro-Brazilian food tradition is most concentrated. All of the AI inventory sits within two hours of Recife or Salvador airports.
What works in Brazil: the beaches are objectively first-rate (long, white-sand, warm year-round), the food has actual identity rather than generic-international, and the value is genuinely strong — a Brazil AI week often comes in 20–30% below the Caribbean equivalent at similar quality. The Iberostar Praia do Forte and Iberostar Bahia complex is among the brand's better-performing regional clusters, and Japaratinga Lounge in Alagoas is one of the highest-rated family AI resorts on the index.
What to weigh: the flight. The US-to-Northeast-Brazil routing usually adds a day each way and a sometimes-uncomfortable connection. Brazilian Portuguese is the working language and on-resort English varies by property; the four- and five-star Iberostars are reliable, smaller properties less so. Hurricane risk doesn't apply (Brazil sits outside the corridor), but the rainy season runs March through August on the northeast coast.
The honest filter: Brazil is correct for travelers who care about beach quality and food and don't mind the long flight. It's the wrong call for a quick week or for someone who needs Spanish-or-English-only signage.
