Secrets Akumal Riviera Maya

What it is.
AMResorts' Akumal play, and the only major adults-only resort on a stretch of the Riviera Maya that's better known for sea-turtle snorkeling and small-scale boutique hotels. 433 suites, adults-only, and a 95 score at $9,654 a week — priced between the Secrets Maroma flagship and the Costa Mujeres newer property.
The location is the distinguishing feature. Akumal sits south of Playa del Carmen and north of Tulum, with a quieter beachfront and the snorkeling-with-turtles infrastructure that the rest of the Riviera Maya doesn't have at the same intensity. The trade-off is that the surrounding ecosystem is thinner than Playa del Carmen or Mayakoba — fewer day-trip restaurants, less nightlife, and a property that has to carry more of the guest's week on its own programming.
What you're paying for: an established adults-only Secrets on a Riviera Maya beach with a genuine point of difference, at a price that runs comfortably below Maroma. For couples who care about the snorkeling and would happily skip the Playa del Carmen restaurant row, this is the right pick. For travelers who want the destination's bigger nightlife and excursion menu, book closer to Playa del Carmen.
