Zel Punta Cana

What it is.
Meliá's newer beach-club-style entry in Bavaro, and a structural departure from the standard mass-market template. Zel is built around a beach-club aesthetic — fewer rooms than the typical Bavaro family resort, more emphasis on the pool-and-DJ programming, and a design language that reads closer to Ibiza than to standard Caribbean AI. The score (92.7) is solid for a relatively new property still finding its operational rhythm.
The positioning is the unusual part. Zel is family-categorized on the index but the broader brand identity is adults-leaning, and the demographic at the property skews toward younger couples and small families rather than the toddler-heavy mass-market mix. At $10,166 a week for a family, it's priced as a premium book despite the Bavaro address.
What you're paying for: a Bavaro beach week with a fundamentally different on-property atmosphere than the surrounding inventory — closer to a design-hotel experience than to a traditional family AI. The trade-off is that the Zel template is still proving out in the DR, and travelers who expect kitchen depth and kids' programming at the Cap Cana family-luxe level will find the configuration unfamiliar. For style-conscious families and couples-with-one-kid, this is the most distinctive book on the strip.
